Series: Adema Brown /South America Appendix,1993/4
Oil (Adema Brown) on graph paper A3.

For over a hundred years, the Firm Adema Schreurs, church organ builders, has been located on the Lauriergracht Amsterdam. In 1980, Bien rented a studio space in the same building. Adema Director Twoin Scheurs is extremely generous and offers support on all fronts, a high-principled cultural position of the company, which is continued even after it is bullied out of the warehouse by landlord A.R. in 1985, and kept alive since 2000 by the new owner Ronald van Bakel.
The brown paint used in this series was the traditional organ  builders colour to paint any wooden part of the installation. Whatever had to be painted beside that also ended up painted brown, the brown paint from Adema, Adema Brown. Many elements in artworks produced over those years originate from the Adema workshop, see Mumo Skula. The company left the building in 1985 but still exists, under the name Adema Schreurs.
